He's a man like many of them. He has little experience, but has done well in school. This reaffirms the common American notion that experience is bunk (like history).

He also makes them feel good about themselves (and America) by allowing them to vote for an African-American without having to support a raver like Jackson, Sharpton, et al.

I'll think about it a bit more in the next couple of days, and see if I can't come up with something more ridiculous.
